William T. Mauro, "Bill', age 83 years, of Presidential Lakes, Pemberton Twp., NJ passed away surrounded by loving family members, after a brief illness.
He was a blessed man loved and appreciated by many. Although often referred to as the smartest man most know and considered a renaissance man with numerous talents and interests, he was a simple man. Simple pleasures such as sitting in his exquisite garden with his love, sipping wine and identifying the singing birds, or spending time listening to his children’s and grandchildren’s stories at a holiday gathering. Nothing fancy. Although some would consider “fancy” his ability to create a masterful meal with the few ingredients he happened to have on hand, or his knowledge of art and history, that was just him. He had a brilliant, inquisitive mind. He had a vast knowledge of many subjects, and the willingness to learn if he didn’t, such as teaching himself a language later in life so he could better communicate with colleagues at work. “Just ask Poppy” was often heard at family gatherings, for he’d surely have an answer, whether it was what type of tree we were standing under, what constellation was shining brightly, what type of military plane was flying overhead, or what species of warbler could be heard in the forest. Bill loved imparting his wisdom and knowledge on his family and they absorbed it all and will continue his legacy. His extensive family will carry on his values and traditions, ensuring his impact will live on. He will live on when we think of him when we see a beautiful bird, a unique leaf on a trail, a piece of art he loved, a stray cat in need of a home, a dancer gracefully gliding on the dance floor, and of course when we see a magnificent garden.
We will remember him when we taste a Tuscan wine or limoncello, or create one of his many delicious signature dishes (though they won’t be nearly as delicious). We will reminisce when we hear a song from his extensive catalog of music that he loved, or witness a hearty, raucous laugh, for he had a wonderful sense of humor.
His legacy will surely live on not just in remembering his talents or experiencing the many loves he had, but living life with kindness and good character. For as unique, intelligent and talented as he was, his good character, special soul and loving family were his greatest achievements.
Bill is survived by his loving wife Diane Barry-Mauro, his children William T. Mauro Jr., Kim Barry, Jennifer Quinn, Carolyn Barry-Gilbert, the late Jeffry Mauro and the late Julie Mauro. He is also survived by his brother John Mauro, 15 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
The visitation for Bill's relatives and friends will be held at The Lankenau Funeral Home, 31 Elizabeth St., Pemberton Borough, NJ 08068 on March 18, 2025, Tuesday afternoon from 12:30 to 2:30 PM followed by his Memorial Service and Celebration of his Life at 2:30 PM.
