Mary Jane Ross (nee’ Smalley), of Southampton Township, NJ passed away peacefully on August 14, 2024 in Mount Holly, New Jersey at the age of 93. Born on August 4, 1931 in Kearny, New Jersey was a lifelong resident of the state and a pillar of her community.
Mary Jane was a graduate of Kearny High School and spent her career dedicated to administrative rolls, retiring from Burlington County Mosquito Control at the age of 74. She was known for her meticulous nature and commitment to her work.
A devout Catholic, Mary Jane was an active member of The Church of The Holy Eucharist in Tabernacle, New Jersey, where she volunteered regularly, embodying the spirit of service and community. Her faith was a cornerstone guiding her actions and interactions.
Beyond her professional and religious life, Mary Jane had a passion for crafts, baking, gardening and traveling. Her hands were rarely still and was happiest when immersed in a new project or exploring new places.
Mary Jane was a loving sister, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth A Ross; sisters, Patricia Haber and Lauren Sorrentino; son in law, Dr Stephen Akers and five grandchildren; Dr Matthew Ulgherait, Bradley Ulgherait, Brian Akers, Daniel Akers and Kelsey Akers. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Robert Smalley; her beloved husband, John B Ross; and her daughter, Mary Ellen Ross.
A memorial mass will be held at Holy Eucharist Parish in Tabernacle, NJ at a later date for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St Vincent de Paul Society at the Church of the Holy Eucharist, 520 Medford Lakes Road, Tabernacle, NJ 08088, honoring Mary Jane’s commitment to her faith and community.
