Juanita R. Santiago, age 94, of Pemberton died on August 29, 2024 at home.
A native of Cayey, Puerto Rico, she was an Elementary School teacher from 1952-1955. Married to her beloved husband, Isidoro "Chago" Santiago in October 1953 till his death in 2005. (52 years). Her focus became being an Army wife to Chago following him around the world during his 28 year military service. She made every new base a warm, inviting home with great care and devotion.
Juanita will be remembered for being an excellent cook known for her Arroz con Pollo, pinto beans, flan and bread pudding. She was independent, resourceful woman who had a house built while Chago served in Vietnam that eventually became their retirement home in Pemberton, NJ. She was an avid animal lover of big and small creatures. A lifelong, devout Catholic and member of Christ Redeemer Church in Mount Holly, NJ. Juanita was an ardent crocheter of baby blankets.
Loving mother of Harold I. (Harry) Santiago who passed away in 2009 and Arleen Palermo & her husband Warren. Juanita, affectionately called Meemaw by her grandchildren leaves Sonja Santiago Smalley with husband Stephen Smalley; Jason David Santiago with wife Leann Santiago and SGT 1st class James Santiago with wife Amy Santiago.
Private graveside service was conducted on Thursday, September 5, 2024 at BGWCD Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown, N. Hanover Twp., NJ.
