DOLORES DELGADO RIVERA Obituary

Beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend . . . Dolores Delgado Rivera (Dolly) of Piscataway, NJ and formerly of Browns Mills, NJ passed away on March 15, 2023 at the age of 80.

Born in 1942 in Iloilo City, Philippines, Dolores was the daughter of the late Luciano and Aquilina (nee Ohinos) Delgado. She graduated with a B.S. Degree in Banking and Finance from Negros Occidental College (now University of Negros Occidental - Recoletos) in Bacolod City, and worked in a lawyer’s office as a secretary in Negros Occidental. Upon her arrival to the United States in 1969, Dolores worked in New York City, residing in Flushing, Queens, and gained her citizenship in March of 1977.

In November 1977, Dolores married Oscar Rivera, Sr., and in 1979, they were blessed with the birth of Rey Oscar Rivera, Jr. Dolores worked for a cruise ship and travel agency in New York and when the Rivera family moved to Woodbridge, NJ in 1986, Dolores worked in the Woodbridge Township Town Hall. In the community, Dolores volunteered for church activities and a soup kitchen in New Brunswick.

Dolores retired in June 2014 from her occupation as a Financial Analyst for the University of Medicine and Dentistry (UMDNJ) (now Robert Woods Johnson Medical School at Rutgers University). The Rivera family relocated to Browns Mills in 1999, and Dolores became a member of the Browns Mills Improvement Association (BMIA) and St. Ann’s Church, volunteering at the annual church carnival and also serving as a member of the Rosary Group.

She liked music and dancing, and her love of travel took Dolores to Greece, Mexico, Hawaii, Germany, Denmark, Russia, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Italy and Spain, including several trips to the Philippines. She loved to plan and manage events, with many family occasions gathering in the Rivera home. Dolores was best known for her generosity, hospitality and her culinary talents. She loved animals, having several dogs as pets along with chickens, koi, and enjoyed feeding birds and the white deer that would visit her back yard.

Dolores is preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Oscar, her parents and four siblings. She is survived by her son, Rey Oscar Rivera, Jr., and grandson, Rey Oscar Rivera III. Mourning her loss are a host of family and friends in the United States and the Philippines.
