BETTY MEHRLANDER Obituary

 "Our  Miracle"   1938  -  2026

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Betty. Betty Mehrlander, age 88, of Pemberton Township, passed peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on her birthday, March 19, 2026.

She was born on March 19, 1938, in Newark, New Jersey, to Wilbur Meisinger and Marie (Woodring) Meisinger, whom Betty loved dearly.

Betty married her true soulmate, Harold Mehrlander, on June 13, 1974. Together they built a loving family that includes a daughter, as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who loved her unwaveringly.

Two years ago, Betty was diagnosed with end-stage kidney failure and was given only one month to live. True to her spirit, she never accepted that timeline, often saying, “Only the Lord knows when it is my time.” How right she was. She went on to live another 22 months, embracing life to the fullest—enjoying camping trips, days at the beach, and visits to the casino. Her doctors and nurses called her a “walking miracle,” and to her family, that is exactly what she was—our miracle.

She began to weaken on March 10. On March 15, her family gathered at her daughter’s home, where she had been staying for the past two years, to celebrate her 88th birthday early. With remarkable strength, she looked at each of us as we sang “Happy Birthday” and managed to blow out her candles one last time.

In the days that followed, she grew weaker and was no longer able to communicate, but she remained surrounded by her loving family. She listened to her favorite 1950s doo-wop songs as we spoke to her, reminding her how deeply she was loved and sharing cherished memories, knowing she could still hear us.

On the night of March 18, her daughter Marie and granddaughters Michelle and Jaclyn sat by her bedside, counting down the minutes to her 88th birthday. At the stroke of midnight, we celebrated her. Over the next 17 minutes, her breathing slowed. She opened her eyes, and we told her she made it. We told her how proud we were and how much we loved her.We assured her it was time to rest. At 12:17 a.m., she peacefully closed her eyes and took her final breath. It was exactly as she would have wanted—beautiful and serene.

Betty is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Marie and Joseph Cianci; her granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Michelle and Alexander Smith; her great-grandchildren, Rebecca and Bradley Smith; her grandson, Michael Cianci; and her granddaughter, Jaclyn Cianci.

A private memorial and funeral service for close family will be held at BG William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest with her beloved husband, Harold, on March 27, 2026, at 10:30 a.m.
