     John C. Ulrich, 76, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on May 27, 2021. He was a native of Chicago, Illinois and a resident of Browns Mills/Pemberton since 1970.John married Kathi(McGowan) in 1967 and they raised three daughters.

     He will be remembered by his many friends and family members for his quick wit, calm approach, strong sense of community, and a deep love for his family. John was a rare combination of someone who had a love of life and a firm understanding of what was important.

     John contributed his leadership and talents to the Pemberton/Browns Mills community in many ways. He was a firm believer in giving back and helping his community prosper. He served 24 years on the Pemberton Township Board of Education and 2 years on the Pemberton Borough Board of Education. He was a tireless and selfless volunteer at Presidential Lakes Fire and Rescue Department–Station 184 during the 1970’s and early 80’s. John mentored many and passed on his Eagle Scout knowledge,as the Scout Master for Boy Scouts of America -Troop 140in Presidential Lakes from 1971-1980;He was a PAAL Softball Coach; and a Field Hockey Coach for the Pemberton Township Junior Field Hockey League,which he served for 26 years. He and his wife Kathi founded the organization after watching all three of their daughters play the sport at Pemberton Twp.High School. He recognized the need for a younger group of girls to learn the sport and feed the high school level asskilled and powerful athletes. This club grew it into a powerful feeder program for the Pemberton Twp. Field Hockey program. Many of Coach John’s players earned college scholarships.

    John proudly served his country in the Army during the Vietnam War and was an active member of the American Legion Post 294 in Pemberton.

     Join us as we pause to remember and celebrate the life of a truly great man.Services will be held at the Lankenau Funeral Home at 31 Elizabeth St, Pemberton, NJ on Wednesday, June 9thfrom 12:00pm to 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you please make donations to:American Legion EDEN-STANLEY POST 294, 39 Fort Dix Road, Pemberton New Jersey 08068.

     John is survived by his beloved wife,Mary (Kathi),to whom he was married for 54 years; his daughters Heather (Chesapeake, VA)and husband James Fritz, Hillary (Browns Mills, NJ)and husband Jason Vargas, and Heide (Paris, France)and husband Jarrad Smith; his grandchildren, Marley Jane, Jacob, Zeno, Wyatt and Reese;his siblings Michael Ulrich(Debbie Ulrich)and Ruthann Cage; and his sister-in-law Jane Wilson(Jeff Wilson).
