Lorretta Ann Dempsey (Nee a" Ostrowski) of Mt. Laurel, NJ passed away on Tuesday morning, May 3, 2011 at home surrounded by her family. She was 72 years old. She was a native of Avoca, PA. She lived in Pennsauken and then Maple Shade for 6 years before moving to her home in Mt. Laurel. Lorretta was a 1960 graduate of Thomas Jefferson University, Phila., PA with a Registered Nursing Degree. She met her late husband of 49 years, Charles Robert Dempsey while attending school in Phila. and they were married Nov. 4, 1961. After graduating Lorretta worked for Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and then Moorestown Nursing Home in the 1970''s. She later worked for Garden State Hospital, Marlton, NJ in the ICU/CCU departments and then returned to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Phila. where she worked in the oncology department. She was presently employed by Virtua Rehabilitation Center, Lumberton, NJ retiring April 1, 2011 after almost 20 years there. Mrs. Dempsey was a member of St. John Neumann Church, Mt. Laurel and a member and past President (1989) of the Altar and Rosary Society there. Wife of the late Charles R. Dempsey "Chuck" (deceased Mar 27, 2011). Mother of Lisa A. Hand & her husband Joseph of Moorestown and Charles R. Dempsey Jr. "Chuck" of Mt. Laurel. Grandmother of Robert C. and Thomas E. Hand both of Moorestown. Sister of Rose Jacek & her husband Bernard of Avoca, PA and Francis Anthony and her husband Robert of Glen Lyon, PA. Also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to Lorretta''s viewing and visitation from 9 to 11 am Friday at The Lankenau & Van Newenhizen Moorestown Memorial Home, 334 Chester Ave., Moorestown. The liturgy of Christian burial will be celebrated 11:30 am Friday at St. John Neumann Church, 560 Walton Ave., Mt. Laurel. Interment will be in Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Vet. Mem. Cemetery, Arneytown, North Hanover Twp., NJ. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made To the American Cancer Society.
